Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur Review

Bukit Bintang - Kuala Lumpur

Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur

If first impressions are anything to go by, the newly-renovated Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur wins hands-down. In fact, the hotel has got it down to an art. As you step foot into the lobby, the sight that greets you is truly one to behold.

Delve deeper and you will find that Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur is not just about good looks. Its impressive qualities go far beyond aesthetics, extending to its range of offerings and level of service.

Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur

The Grand Lobby

Featuring black marble and earthy tones with gold accents, the lobby impresses at first sight. Opulent and elegant, it greets guests upon entry with a colossal tiered crystal chandelier hanging in the middle and a fountain lined with gold-plated tiles behind it. The skylights let in natural light, which can be quite a spectacle in the morning when the sunlight hits the crystal chandelier.

On one side of the lobby is Bistro 160, the hotel’s cigar and café lounge, and on the other side is the reception lounge, which features an innovative concept: plush sofas are provided for guests to sit on while waiting to be checked in so that no queueing up is required, and instead of a check-in counter, they have four check-in desks – each manned by a hotel personnel - so that during the process of checking in, guests remain seated in total comfort, just like the ones in financial institutions, except with a far classier touch.

The Rooms

Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur has 469 guestrooms in total, including 30 suites. A 32-inch LCD flat-screen television equipped with satellite channels and floor-to-ceiling window panels offering excellent views of the city come as standard in all rooms, as well as high-speed broadband internet access, a separate shower cubicle and long bath, an in-room electronic safe, a well-stocked mini fridge and snack bar, coffee and tea-making facilities, and two IDD (International Direct Dial) lines. There are non-smoking floors, too, as well as rooms for disabled guests.

The Deluxe Room, the hotel’s most ‘basic’ offering, is nothing basic in terms of comfort and facilities. Featuring earthy tones which are both stylish and soothing, it comes with either a huge King-sized bed or super-sized twin beds, furnished with soft down pillows and duvet. The huge floor-to-ceiling panelled windows look out to Jalan Bukit Bintang below, which looks particularly amazing at night. A plush lazy chair complete with footstool and a standing reading lamp right next to the windows provide a nice touch to the room.

Other than the Deluxe Room, there are also the Executive Club Room, the Studio Suite, the Executive Suite, the presidential Suite and the Imperial Suite, all located on the Executive Club Floors. The Executive Club Floors come with exclusive privileges which include a personal butler service and full access to the Club Lounge, where guests can enjoy a personalised check-in and check-out service, all-day refreshments and evening cocktails, just to name a few.

The Food & Beverage Facilities

Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur is in a standard of its own when it comes to its four food & beverage outlets, each with its own unique character. Featuring a classy yet cosy décor and an open-kitchen concept, The Mill serves sumptuous, freshly-prepared buffet-style spread consisting of Asian and Mediterranean favourites. It comes complete with its own juice bar as well as window seats next to floor-to-ceiling glass panels offering views of the lobby, and sections of the restaurant can be cordoned off to cater to private parties and events. Zing serves Halal traditional Cantonese cuisine which includes dim sum, shark’s fin and homemade hand-pulled noodles, prepared just the way you like it from action stations. Featuring a palatial red-and-black interior, the restaurant is divided into several sections consisting of a ‘public’ dining area, a few private dining areas and a noodle bar area.

Right next door to Zing is Pulse, a swanky nightspot featuring live bands, celebrity deejays, bottles of imported wines and liquor, signature cocktails and a selection of tapas. Its split-level interior provides revellers with plenty of space to party the night away in, with the top level opening out to a balcony where the party can continue in the open air. Bistro 160 is a café and cigar lounge offering a superb selection of cakes, pastries, salads, sandwiches, high-quality gourmet coffees and fine teas, as well as premium spirits and cigars. Adjacent to it is a smoking lounge equipped with sofas and a large-screen LCD television, with a door that leads out to Jalan Bukit Bintang.

The Hotel’s Facilities

Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur’s multitude of facilities ensure that its guests get the best out of their stay here, regardless of whether they here on business or on a holiday. Its Fitness Centre, with its two gymnasiums, is adjacent to its Spa Centre, which offers all types of body and facial treatments and come with a heated spa pool.

Located on the third floor is the hotel’s swimming pool, which comes with a covered terrace area where guests can sit back and relax in the shade on very hot days. Also available are an indoor squash court, Wi-Fi hotspots, a tour desk, foreign currency exchange service, express laundry and dry-cleaning service, valet parking, courier and mailing service, baby-sitting service, concierge service, car rental service, secure covered parking lots and facilities for wheelchair users.

For business users, there’s a Business Centre on the ground floor right next to the reception area, complete with its own secretary. The hotel also has 15,000 square feet of event space consisting of an enormous Ballroom and twelve Function Rooms, all equipped with state-of-the-art technology and facilities, as well as a team of dedicated staff on hand to ensure that any event goes on as smoothly as it should. There is also a Champagne Room one level up, accessible from The Mill restaurant, where private group dinners, complete with a personal chef, can be held.

The Hospitality

Perhaps one of the hotel’s strongest points is its team of affable, dedicated staff, which probably comes as no surprise seeing that the hotel is a recipient of numerous international awards, including Hospitality Asia Platinum Award for Service Excellence.

Despite its five-star looks, it doesn’t give off any of that intimidating air often associated with five-star hotels, not with a staff greeting you at every corner with a genuine, warm smile. From the front desk to the restaurants, you get the feeling that no matter how ridiculous your request is, the staff will do their best to fulfill it. They are also multi-lingual, to better serve the hotel’s international clientele. Service is also fast and efficient, with no unnecessary waiting time.
