The Lobby
Hotel Maya Kuala Lumpur’s lobby is one level up from the ground floor, and opens out to a driveway tucked away on the other side of the hotel, hidden from the main street, giving checking-in guests maximum privacy and minimum intrusion. Fitted out with designer furnishings and a drinks dispenser from which you can enjoy a refreshing glass of ginger or calamansi, the reception area adopts a seated check-in concept.
Flanking the reception area on both sides are the Lobby Lounge with its wide selection of snacks, cocktails and mocktails as well as nightly live entertainment, and a group check-in area equipped with computer stations and cubicles with plug-in points, where guests can sit and surf in peace. The windows on both sides are lined with green bamboo shoots from the outside.
The Rooms
Hotel Maya Kuala Lumpur has a total of 207 guestrooms, of which 107 are suites. Spacious, stylish, unfussy, and with plenty of natural light pouring in from the floor-to-ceiling window, the rooms come in four types - Studio, Junior Suite (with a fully-imported stand-alone bathtub), Deluxe Suite (with a walk-in closet and a dedicated powder area) and Executive Suite – with the left and right wing connected by a sky bridge on each floor.
The room that I stayed in - a Studio Room - comes with a magnificent view of the Petronas Twin Towers, looming large before me. Next to the window are a stylish chaise longue in pink suede and a sizeable work desk with a sliding desktop.

A large flat-screen television and a DVD player come as standard, with satellite channels and a huge selection of complimentary DVD movies for you to choose from. The mini bar, fridge and coffee-making facilities are neatly tucked away in a glossy black cabinet next to the television. As a coffee lover, I was delighted to find a proper coffee maker in my room instead of the usual packets of Nescafe provided in most hotels. A selection of herbal teas is also available for tea drinkers. The safe inside the closet comes with a power plug point so that you can charge your mobile phone or laptop while keeping it safe.
Wired and wireless high-speed internet access is not only available in the hotel’s public areas, but also in all its rooms, absolutely free of charge to all its guests. What’s more, guests can also make unlimited free local calls to any landline in the comfort of their rooms. Room service is available at the touch of a button; the hotel’s floor butlers are available around the clock to cater to your needs at all times, who can also press your garments for free (up to 5 pieces of clothing) upon arrival. The rooms also come with a ‘Pillow Menu’, allowing you to choose from feather pillows, hypoallergenic pillows, bolster pillows, hollow fibre pillows and the exclusive buckwheat pillows, said to be beneficial for health.
The Food & Beverage Facilities
Hotel Maya Kuala Lumpur has three Food and Beverage options, all located on the first level: Ramah Tamah, Maya Brasserie and Still Waters. Ramah Tamah is the hotel’s delicatessen, serving cakes, pastries, gourmet sandwiches, pizza and a selection of hot drinks and fruit juices, while Maya Brasserie is the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant, serving buffet and a la carte breakfast and lunch, and a la carte Nyonya specialties as well as an exciting dessert buffet in the evening.
Still Waters offers a fine-dining experience with a menu consisting of fusion Japanese and Cantonese cuisine. Employing an open-kitchen concept, the restaurant’s centrepiece is its cascading water feature – which falls into a pool below - that looks particularly amazing at night when illuminated.
The Leisure Facilities
Aside from 24-hour doctor-on-call, valet service, concierge service, luxury limousine service, complimentary parking space, complimentary return transfer to the airport and scheduled shuttle service to nearby areas, guests of Hotel Maya Kuala Lumpur also have exclusive access to the Sky Lounge on Level 13. Open every day from noon to midnight, the Sky Lounge has a mini library and a bar, where guests can enjoy a cigar and a drink or two. Its balcony offers a spectacular panoramic view of the KLCC area – a sight that is particularly breathtaking at night when all the lights are on in the city.

The hotel’s Anggun Spa on Level 3 is in a class of its own. Combining the massage techniques of Malay, Thai and Balinese, each of its six treatment rooms (including two couple treatment rooms) are impressively sized, with its own en-suite bathroom, bathtub and foot treatment area. The Spa’s Anggun Café serves organic food for a healthy lunch or snack. Just across the Spa is the hotel’s gymnasium and fitness studio, where yoga and aerobics classes are often conducted.
Surrounded by bamboo walls and roof, the heated hydrotherapy pool – located in the middle between Anggun Spa and the gymnasium - is one of the hotel’s unique features. Warm water jets massage your aching muscles, while Jacuzzi-like bubble jets soothe your troubles away.
The Business Facilities
With a grand ballroom and six meeting rooms, state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment, different meeting packages and a team of event organisers who are able to help you plan and manage your function efficiently, Hotel Maya Kuala Lumpur’s event facilities are comprehensive. Its grand ballroom, at 405sqm, can be further divided into three to four separate event spaces.
The Sky Lounge is also equipped with a 12-seater ‘floating’ boardroom which has a dramatic view of the surrounding rooms and floors. A plasma screen and video-conferencing facilities are also included, as well as a choice of projectors, PA system and complimentary WiFi/wired broadband internet access. The hotel also has a 24-hour Business Centre, enabling guests to stay ahead of their work.
