Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Review
Sultan Ismail - Kuala Lumpur
An oasis in the heart of a buzzing metropolis, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur’s imposing structure stands proud amidst the city’s landmarks. Having recently undergone a period of extensive renovation and refurbishment, the 38-storey hotel is the epitome of elegance filled with superb accommodations and range of facilities. Combining Moorish influences with clean lines, the hotel’s exotic interior makes you feel right at home the moment you step through its doors.
The Grand Lobby
Soothing and welcoming – that’s the feeling you get upon entering Sheraton Imperial’s lobby. Dominated by dark polished wood, marble flooring and magnificent wooden arches framing walkways and corners, the lobby has a regal feel to it.
A grand staircase leading up to the lounge and the restaurants on the upper floors forms the lobby’s central point. A pool with colourful koi fish provides a calming effect. The foyer spreads out into alcoves with plush chairs and sofas, with mother-of-pearl disc curtains cascading from the ceiling covering the entire length of the windows.
The Rooms
Comprising five room types - Imperial Suite, Ambassador Suite, Deluxe Suite, Club Room and Deluxe Room - Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur’s 385 guestrooms are incredibly expansive. Even its most basic offering, the Deluxe Room, is generous in size. Natural light pours in through the huge windows, further enhancing the sense of space.
The rooms all come with a walk-in closet as standard, complete with floor-to-ceiling drawer units and a sizeable safety box large enough to store a laptop. A 40" wall-mounted television gives you the option of satellite channels or a selection of pay-per-view movies. There is also a hospitality port to plug in audio-visual equipment along with a large work desk and high-speed broadband. One look around the room and you can see that special attention has been paid to details – from high-thread-count bed linens to a choice of normal or hypoallergenic feather, synthetic, contour or foam pillows.
The Club Room that we stayed in enjoys a spectacular view of the Petronas Twin Towers. Guests of Club Rooms and above enjoy extra benefits such as private check-in and check-out, complimentary laundry and clothes-pressing service of up to six garments per day and exclusive limitless access to the Club Lounge and its facilities. Check-in was effortless and speedy and soon we were enjoying a leisurely drink on the sofa in the Club Lounge while waiting for our details to be processed.
The Food & Beverage Facilities
Sheraton Imperial’s award-winning restaurants are in a class of their own. Specially prepared by world-class chefs with years of experience, the restaurants are as distinctive in looks and ambience as they are in their cuisine.
Three of Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur’s food and beverage outlets are interconnected. Going up the grand staircase in the lobby, one arrives at Pavilions Lounge, the perfect evening retreat featuring live entertainment and a bar serving a full selection of liquors, wines and beers. Pavilions Court, the hotel lobby’s newest addition, serves fine afternoon tea.
One level up is Essence, a vibrant restaurant serving all-day buffet. Aside from a stylish noodle bar, the restaurant also has a juice corner. Further up the staircase is Celestial Court, the hotel’s well-known Chinese restaurant. The award-winning restaurant also has four separate dining rooms for private dining.
Villa Danieli, an Italian restaurant, offers an exceptional fine-dining experience. Located on the fifth floor right next to the swimming pool, the restaurant is made up to resemble a country villa with its gloriously romantic interior. Diners have the option to enjoy their meals inside or al fresco on the adjoining veranda.
Leisure Facilities
The award-winning Mandara Spa offers all kinds of holistic treatments from detox wraps to full-body massages. A pot of ginger tea is served to guests before each treatment, while the therapists explain the process and help guests choose their oil. Using only natural, quality ingredients, the treatments combine Balinese and traditional Asian techniques. The Spa is equipped with separate gender treatment rooms and Spa Suites for couples.
The Fitness Centre is equipped with high-tech professional machines to ensure that you get the most out of your workouts. The gym is open from 6am to 10pm, but special arrangements can be made if you wish to use it outside normal hours. The swimming pool area on the same floor has shaded deck chairs around the freeform pool. Guests can opt to have a massage or a Spa treatment poolside.
If you would like to take some time to explore the city but don’t know where to begin, the Concierge Desk should be your first stop. The hotel also has a shuttle service to KLCC for all its guests.
Business Facilities
Sheraton Imperial ensures that corporate professionals do not feel out of place here. Together with over 14,000sqft of event space comprising 10 rooms ranging from a grand ballroom to a small boardroom, you can be sure that no matter what the scale of the event, Sheraton has the right space to accommodate it. Not only that, the rooms can also be combined to create a bigger event space, or divided into sub-rooms to create a smaller, more compartmentalised one.
The grand Nusantara ballroom’s high ceilings and arched doorways are reminiscent of a Moorish palace. Its pillarless interior can fit up to 1,000 persons. A large foyer allows for pre-dinner drinks and receptions, as well as exhibition booths.
The 24-hour Business Centre on the ground floor is fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology such as call conferencing, as well as secretarial services, while the Club Lounge on the 38th floor is available exclusively for Club Floor guests, with free Wi-Fi, complimentary breakfast, all-day drinks and refreshments, evening cocktails, access to the Library Lounge and use of the boardroom one hour daily.
